The biggest piece of invaluable advice from the course I took - ALWAYS LOOK AHEAD TO WHERE YOU WANT TO END UP when going through a corner, NOT directly in front of you or you will screw up every time - don't ask me why it works but it does.
I also did many hours of practicing between the parking lot lines at a local train station - learning to use the clutch with the throttle for slow speed/slow maneuver control. Damn, I'd be good in a slow-race now :-)
also: taking the MSF greatly reduced my insurance here in NY.
